SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THE DECK OR THE DIVINATIONARY SYSTEM FIRST

You may wonder whether you should choose the divinationary system first and then search for the appropriate deck within this system or choose the deck first and simply adjust to its system.

I have experienced both ways of finding the deck.

When I was very young, just twenty, I got interested in the Tarot cards and was studying its theory although I limited myself only to books and articles at that time without owning an actual deck. A couple of years later I finally felt ready to buy my own deck (it was Tarot of the Mermaids by Lo Scarabeo) and started to work with the cards.

However, my experience with runes was totally different. One day I saw a beautiful, absolutely stunning deck used by a fortune teller on TV (later I found out it was Power of the Runes by Voenix) and found it so fascinating that I felt I simply must have it :D. So I bought it and later started to search for the information about the runes, its meanings, origins, legends and so on.

Both attitudes are good but the essential thing is to be ready to work hard with the cards and to transform your personality while discovering them.

PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE CHANGES IN ATTITUDE

While working with the cards, it is best not to assume that your attitude towards a deck will be stable and consequent. In fact it is very probable that it will vary depending on your current mood so working with the cards requires flexibility. You have to learn to listen to your inner voice of intuition and be ready to respond when it says, Today I am in the mood for this deck, not that one. It may happen that you choose a deck to work it but then after a month or two you simply feel it is not good for you so you put it back on the shelf. And then after a year you suddenly notice it, think of giving it second chance and realise it is actually fantastic.

This is how I work with the runes, I usually have my favourite decks with images (by Voenix and Dariusz Cecuda) but sometimes I am just in the mood for plain, simple signs and another time I do not even want to use the cards but runes engraved on the gemstones.

In fact professional fortune tellers often use different decks depending on the question they are posing so they have different cards to ask about love, health or finances.

And that is why the people who work with the cards often have a large amount of decks 😉 😀

WHAT KIND OF CARDS YOU WANT TO USE

I think anyone can use oracle cards which are based on egregores. I will explain in further videos what egregores are but for now let me just say that an egregore is a collective thoughtform which is present in our mind. One of the examples of the egregores are angels so if you pick up an angel oracle card, you perceive it as the message from the angels and are naturally open to the meaning of the card. You will not obtain the detailed answer but you do not need much knowledge to interpret them. This is why the oracle cards are so simple to use (and so popular right now).

However, when it comes to the structured, divinationary cards (Tarot, runes, Lenormand cards, geomantic cards, gypsy cards, playing cards), they are definitely more requiring. They include symbols and archetypes therefore they need an interpretation and deeper way of thinking. You have to be able to see things from a wider perspective. When you work with this type of cards you have to be open to change, transform, change your thought patterns, develop and grow.  This is never an easy and quick process so you might get frustrated at some point. If you do not have thee basic emotional maturity, you might project your feeling of failure onto cards and think they are ‘Satan’s tool’ but in reality this attitude only shows your lack of maturity.

Cards are great tool for self – development if you are ready to learn. Even if you do not believe they can foretell the future, they can show you the present situation and help you understand it.

THE DIVINATIONARY CARDS ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE

They require a lot from you and to work with them you must be patient and persistent. You have to work with your own psyche and become self-aware because cards reflect also the Shadow part of it. If you analyse the cards you come to the moment when you have to face them and here the question appears whether you are ready to do it or not. If you are not, you will reject the cards (and the Shadow part of yourself).

All the cards but particularly this type of decks also require pure intentions and integrity in every day life. Even if you are being mentally fed with the ‘I-don’t-have-to-be-perfect’ or ‘I-am-already-perfect’ or ‘I-am-beautifully-flawed’ mantras of your spiritual teachers, you should give up this way of thinking when it comes to cards. They need you to be better and better person, you cannot stick to average personality if you want to work with them. If you want to listen to the ‘I-don’t-have-to-be-perfect’ mantras in every day life, you can do it. It is your choice and I am not going to comment on it.

However, if you want to use this attitude toward the work with cards I must warn you it is very limiting. You simply have to try to be better person than you were yesterday, otherwise you will only learn the craft, not the art of spreading cards. You have to be ready to abandon some aspects of your behaviour which might be comfortable for you but do not help you to grow beyond your comfort zone and are in fact blocking you. You have to be careful about your intentions because if you act out of the basic parts of your psyche such as Ego or Shadow, you might actually do more harm than good.  You have to make your thoughts, words and deeds one, not to say one thing, think about the other and act in yet another way.  You have to be impeccable. You have to be immaculate like the Persian goddess Anahita.

If you are not ready to commit yourself to this aspect of working with cards, you better not take up the divinationary decks. Nobody forces you after all.

THE OGHAM ORACLE

The Celtic alphabet introduced in the 4-6th century (previously all the Druid tradition was oral), similar to the Germanic runes in structure (again straight lines easy to carve).

Signs are associated with particular plants and this provides the divination meaning that I would like to find out more about in the future.

RUNES

I use the Elder Futhark, the 24 sign alphabet of the Germanic tribes, created to be carved on the hard materials like wood or stones (which explains its shape consisting of lines, not of curves like the alphabets destined to be written on paper). It was later shortened to 16 signs and called the Younger Futhark and the inhabitants of the British Isles were using yet another version, the 32 rune Anglo-Saxon Futhark.

Why the name futhark? It comes from the runes in first aett (segment): Fehu Uruz Thurisaz Ansuz Raidho Kenaz (it you take the first letters of these names you will get the word futhark).

Each rune had not only the phonetic value but also the hidden magical meaning and is associated with particular deity, element and nature. This divinationary system requires imagination from the reader because you have to look at the shape of the rune and get the information from its position, angles etc. In the video I am giving you the example of the rune Kenaz which clearly shows opening (for knowledge or another person). You can also use the deck with the graphic representation of the runes such as The Power of The Runes deck by Voenix which I use.

A SHORT GUIDE HOW TO USE CARDS (PART 3)

HOW TO PREPARE YOURSELF?

1. Prepare yourself and your space. Find time and place when you feel safe, you do not have to hurry and no one interrupts you. The time of spreading cards is just for you, tell your family not to bother you for some time and turn your phone off, you will need a moment of silence and concentration. It does not matter when you spread cards, a morning kind of person feels fine when reading them at 6 am while for  ‘night owls’ such time definitely is not the best moment. Whenever you want to do it, just make sure you are not  tired, sick nor distracted and you can concentrate on this task only.

2. Light a candle and/or an incense, they are said to raise vibrations by keeping the lower ones away  and making you feel calm. You can also use protective symbols such as a pentagram. Some people need  absolute silence but if gentle music helps you to concentrate, you can play it. It is good to ask  Higher Forces for help and protection (be it God/Goddess, Nature or your Higher Self). Regardless of how blasphemous it may seem for some highly religious people, I always address my questions to The One&his  Wisdom.

3. Calm down and focus on your question (look below how to form it properly). You can meditate if it  helps you. Keep your emotions on the leash especially if the question concerns you, otherwise your  wishes and emotional states will show up in the spread instead of clear answers. If you are not centered, cards will express what you WANT to see, not the best possible solution.

4. It is very important to spread cards when both your body and mind are healthy and in good condition.  Working with cards requires a lot of mental energy and you can feel exhausted when you finish. Do not do  anything because you are pressured or challenged. If you do not feel like spreading cards, better stay away from them.

5. Each person has their own rituals. Personally I have a set of activities before spreading cards: I  wash my hands, I place a dark tablecloth, I concentrate by asking myself ‘What will cards tell  me? What will be their answer to my question?’. With time you will probably develop your own rituals.

HOW TO FORM QUESTIONS?

The basic thing while spreading cards is a well-formed question. Cards answer any question sufficiently  on the condition they understand it.

1. Make sure you ask about one thing at the time. Do not ask, Will he break up with me and if so will he be with someone else and will I find someone else too and who will it be? Limit yourself to Will he break up with me? and if the answer is positive, you can ask another question, How will my emotional life will look like after that?

2. Do not repeat the already asked question unless the situation has changed. Do not try to ask for the same thing using similar questions (first, Does he cheat on me? and later, Is he faithful to me?). Personally I would like to discourage you from asking the same question to different divinationary systems hoping that the answer will be different. If he is to break up, he will do it anyway and runes will only show it in a different way than Tarot or Lenormand cards. If you asked a question and spread the cards, you have to be satisfied with the answer you got. Accept it. Cards are not toys.

3. It is good to ask precise questiones aimed at resolving the problem, What can I do to make him stay?.

4. Do not ask questions such as Should I dump him first? or Will it be good if I dump him first? Cards will not make decision instead of you and you should not make them responsible for you own life. It would be better to ask them, What will happen if I break up with him?

5. When you hesitate what to do, you can first spread cards asking question, What will happen if I break up with him? and next asking question What will happen if I stay with him?. Then you can compare spreads and make a decision.

6. Do not confuse cards. Do not ask, Does he love me or not? because you convey two contradictory issues in one question. Remember to ask as clear and precise questions as possible. The more concrete, specific and definite question the more concrete, specific and definite answer.

7. When asking questions about other people say or think of their name and date or birth. It will direct the energy towards this specific person. I suggest not to ask questions about people with whom we have no direct relations. They are aimed not at helping people but satisfying your curious ego so you better not ask, Will Angelina dump Brad?.

8. I suggest not to ask questions which can be answered without spreading cards such as Am I pregnant?. It is easier and safer to go to chemist’s and get a pregnancy test. For the same reason it makes no sense to ask cards will the royal baby be a boy or a girl. You will find out in a couple of months time.

9. The only question you should never ask is When I/Mr X/Ms Y will die?. It is not up to us to decide about other people’s fate.  Only The One&his Wisdom know the answer.

10. I suggest writing the question and making a picture of a spread. You can come back to them later to verify your interpretation. As a professional translator I can see many similarities with the craft of making translation: the first version is a draft, you prepare it simply by using your knowledge of target and source language. Then you have to leave it for some time and occupy your mind with different issues because when you come back to it later, you will have a fresh and more objective look. It’s the same with spreading cards, you ask a question, place the cards, search for meanings and form an interpretaion. You can later verify what you predicted and add your personal meanings to cards, find out your mistakes etc. This is how you learn.
